Important Information for NPSD Staff Members Who Are Thinking of Retiring

It is that time of year when many of the veteran staff members consider retirement. At the same time, district offices begin to plan for the following school year. We look to the 2011-2012 school year knowing what impact retirements will have on the district.

In an effort to be as efficient as possible, we are asking that staff members notify the NPSD Human Resources Department of their intent to retire by March 1, 2011. This will allow the district to begin the necessary planning and work associated with staffing for the 2011-2012 school year.

All those who have already informed the Human Resources Department or do so by March 1, 2011 will receive one personal day as a thank you for the advanced notification. The day can be used during this school year or reimbursed at the end of the year. The personal day should not be viewed as an attempt at an early retirement incentive. Unfortunately, incentive packages cannot be offered every year.

On February 1st from 4 to 5:30 p.m., the district will host a retirement informational session with representatives from the Business and Human Resources departments and a 403(b) provider to answer questions at the Educational Services Center. On the NPSD Intranet, under NPSD Announcements, feel free to view the “Steps to Retiring” document which will be reviewed that afternoon. This meeting is not required. If attending, please print and bring the online document to the meeting. Click here to access this document.

The North Penn School District knows that retirement is not always an easy decision to make. Please remember that staff members of the Human Resources Department are here to assist you.

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
