Information Regarding Password Changes and VPN Access in NPSD
Starting this month, NPSD staff members will be required to change their passwords every 30 days. An automatic reminder will be sent. The first 30-day change will be determined from the date that the password was changed in December 2011. Staff members will not have to change their password until they receive the notification. However, if the password is not changed and the 30-day period expires, staff members will then be required to change their password. The password notification will NOT ask for login or password information; the notification will just inform staff members of the 30-day requirement and the need to change their password.
The following conditions and complexities regarding passwords have also been added:
All passwords MUST be at least 6 characters in length. This means that the minimum number of characters is 6, but more can be used if desired.

Also, VPN access has been restored for administrators and technology staff using remote.npenn.org. Access for teachers will be restored by the end of this month at the latest. The process is involved and the NPSD network engineer needs to validate each account that was previously active to the shutdown, and then manually add the account back into the system. NPSD Technology Manager Robin Lutcher will notify teachers when access is restored for those who previously had used remote.npenn.org.
