NPSD Educational Foundation Seeks 2009-2010 Grant Proposals

Officers of the North Penn School District Educational Foundation have announced plans to receive and review teacher proposals for Innovative Classroom Projects.  Proposals are invited within a cost limit of $600 per proposal, excluding transportation. Proposals should be submitted to principals by Wednesday, April 8.  Principals are asked to review and forward proposals to the Manager of School/Community Engagement by Friday, April 17.

Proposals should be created to address the mission of the Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to support programs for the benefit of the students and families in the North Penn School District, which will lead to the overall improvement of the quality of education and an enhancement of community support for public education.

    1.         Proposals should provide an enrichment experience for a single student, a group of students, a class, a segment of the student body or the entire student body — in a specific building or throughout the school district.

    2.         Examples of enrichment activities and opportunities are: special assemblies; guest speakers; attendance at a special event such as a symposium, conference, or workshop; leadership training for students; health monitoring group; artist-in-residence; staff training which leads to direct immediate student benefits; props, materials, equipment for new learning unit; or the purchase of specialized equipment which would enrich learning for many students.

    3.         The Foundation board will consider funding “field trips” only when they might be described as unique, nonrecurring, and/or inappropriate for funding by individual students and their parents.

    4.         Proposals should be initiated by a teacher or group of teachers, endorsed by the appropriate principal, and submitted to the Foundation within stated deadlines.

    5.         Grant recipients may be asked to submit a follow-up form after implementation. They may also be asked to help in the publicity of the program.

    6.         As a recipient of a North Penn School District Educational Foundation grant, we encourage you to volunteer your time or attend Foundation events, such as the Outback Steakhouse Charity Luncheons held each year in early October and the end of February, the annual Golf Outing that is held in August or the 20th Anniversary Gala in April. We believe that it helps the Foundation effort to have grant recipients showing their support for fund-raising activities in these ways.

During the Grant Review Process, the committee considers the following criteria, not necessarily in the order listed.

    1.         The number of students affected by this grant.

    2.         The availability of other funding sources to support some or all of a grant request.

    3.         Fair distribution of funds among all schools.

    4.         Every attempt will be made to combine multiple grant requests for the same or similar materials such as leveled books, computer related materials, etc.

    5.         Requests benefiting special needs students, including ESL, learning support, gifted, etc. will receive special consideration.

    6.         The uniqueness of the project and the longevity of the project will be considered when awarding a grant.

    7.         Has the project been supported in the past?

    8.         Does the request have the potential to be utilized by other staff members and to have the potential to become incorporated in the district’s educational budget and curriculum development project?
